DIY: Leg Warmers

I love the 80's. I think I immersed myself in about every style trend that came out in the 80's. Neon, jelly shoes, knickers, big hair, off-the-shoulder sweaters, friendship pins, and of course leg warmers.

I am happy to see that leg warmers are coming back in style. And they are so much cuter now than they use to be.

So you can imagine how excited I was during a recent shopping trip to Hobby Lobby when I saw leg warmers! I picked up a few supplies to jazz up these little leg warmers for The Short Chic. Pink Polka Dot leggings, a variety of ribbon, and some glitter buttons.

This morning I sat down at my sewing machine and sewed the pink ribbon to the top of the leggings.  It was not hard, just a tight stretch around the sewing machine. In the end, the ribbon looks pretty good around the top of the leggings. 
Next I took 7/8 inch Hot Pink Grosgrain ribbon and cut a piece several inches long. I ran a basting stitch along one side of the ribbon.



After I had a basting stitch through the entire ribbon, I began gathering the ribbon up tightly till it formed a circle.  I tied a knot to secure the gather, glued the edges together, trimmed it up. Next I put a button right in the middle of it.


The  end result, I am very pleased with:


She is very pleased with the end result.  She said, "this is what dancing looks like!" I am thinking these might make cute Christmas presents for all the other little dancers in our world. 

The fun part, she has no idea how fashion recycles itself. To her, I am a trend setter. Ha Ha! I wonder what will be next?  I am hoping for friendship beads!

    Those came out great! Dancing, winter, or just because, I love leg warmers. I'm pulling mine out to enjoy those 80 moments to...Flash dance, here we come!

Tour of Missouri: Montauk State Park and The Ozark National Scenic Riverway

August has become our summer vacation month. Summer activities have usually wound down and we like to get one last hooray in before school starts.  This summer we decided to travel our own state and visit a few places we have been dreaming of visiting but were a little too far for a weekend road trip. Despite last minute vacation glitches we managed to pull out of Kansas City around 9:00 in the morning headed to Montauk State Park just outside of Licking, Missouri.  Montauk State Park is one of three state parks where you can trout fish in Missouri. We are frequent visitors of  Bennett Springs  State Park but not Montauk, just because of the travel distance from our house. (Bennett Springs is about 3 hours and Montauk is double that.) Today is an anniversary date. One of those dates you wish you did not have to remember but there is no way you can forget.  Fifteen years ago today,two days after his birthday, my father died of lung cancer.
