Last year's camp t-shirts were a reverse tie-dye using bleach. They were a huge hit!  You can check them out  here . This year I decided to do some tie-dying using spray bottles.  I spent an entire Saturday using my Cricut to cut out the letters C-M-P. I used the Going Places cartridge to cut a pup-tent out to use instead of the A.  In preparation for the big day I purchased several inexpensive spray bottles to put the dye into. My plan was to adhere the letters to white t-shirts, use the spray bottle to add color and then remove the letters to reveal white letters surrounded by dyed shirts.  It was a good plan, too. I am positive it would have worked. In fact, I know it would have. If I had not forgotten the letters at home and forgot to take them to the campsite.  By the time I realized I didn't have the letters it was too late to run home and get them. A back-up plan was needed.  My back-up plan was to just let the kids hav...

We live in flip flops all summer long. Who doesn't? The other night The Short Chic suffered a blow-out in her flip flops. We threw them away and walked home barefooted. The Short Chic has a hard time letting things go. I had to promise her a new pair or she would not have thrown them away. I found super inexpensive flip flops at a large craft store. They were less than $2.00 a pair. I also picked up some ribbon and some sparkly buttons. Total project cost: $7.00 a pair.  Making these flip flops is easy and quick. You simply cut pieces of ribbon, tie them around the straps of the flip flop. I used pink and black ribbon and alternated colors. You can make a pair with all one color or go crazy and use a whole rainbow of colors. After I was finished, I trimmed the ends of the ribbon and used my E-6000 to glue a sparkly pink button to the center of each flip flop. I really don't think it needs this step, but the sparkly button sure made The Short Chic happy....

My worry in taking a wide range of kids camping is that the younger kids would be happy just playing together but the older ones, the one's in that awkward pre-teen/teen age, would think everything was so uncool they would just sit around and mope. So I designed a few activities that would hopefully get them up, participating, and moving.  I came home from work a few weeks before the Family Camp-out and found my neighbors had trimmed their tree limbs and piled the mess in my yard. I refrained from getting angry. Over a nice dinner, I asked The Husband to help me with a little project. He looked at me in disgust. I was pulling him away from ESPN to help with an unnecessary camping craft.  I admit I did some begging. In the end, The Husband borrowed his father's chainsaw and decided to help me cut medallions out of a limb.  His mood started changing, quickly.{I then begged him to let me try my hand at the chainsaw, but he would not let budge on that...

We just got home from a great weekend camping. We had a great time with great friends, food, activities and even crafts. I am going to share with you one of our crafts: Reversed Tie-Die or Bleached T-Shirts.  The reason I selected these t-shirt is they are easy. They have minimal parts. Low prep work. And so much fun to make! Supplies: t-shirts. I would suggest using 100% Cotton t-shirts. We got lucky JoAnn Fabric had them on sale this past week 3/$9.99. Tacky Spray. I bought Arlene's Re-positional Tacky Spray. Card stock Design. I made my letters using a Cricut Machine and two different fonts: Going Places had the tent that I made into an A. When I think of summer a few words come to mind: hot, watermelon, pool, fun, friends, ice cream, vacations, smore's.  And tie-dye. Yes, tie-dye. Maybe it is all the summer camp influence but I just can't imagine summer without a tie-dye project. This project comes from this super cute girl. She is the recipient of my son's affection, which means she is around our house enough to give me a short lesson on how to tie-dye shoes. The supplies for this project are super easy to find. Wal Mart has Tie-Dye kits in their craft section. They are reasonable, $15.00 for five bottles of dye, refills, gloves, and rubber bands. I also picked up the plain white shoes from Wal Mart and a plain white t-shirt. Total, I spent $20.00 on this project.  My coach suggested going outside for this project. We took a plastic bag and put our supplies on it, to protect the deck. {That is almost funny because we need a new deck so badly!} Our tie-dye kit came with plastic gloves and ...

The Short Chic's best friend Little Mess is turning 4 years old. Little Mess and The Short Chic have something in common. Both of their mommies are picky. We won't let our little girls play with make up because they make too big of a mess. So, for her birthday I decided to make her some "fake" makeup. I am sure it is going to delight her. And make her Mommy happy too! The first thing you do, is buy real makeup. I would suggest not spending a lot of money on it because you are going to be throwing it away. You just want the containers. In fact, if you have makeup containers at home, you do not even need to buy new makeup. I got this makeup from Dollar General. Each one cost me about $1.50. Take a knife and scoop out the makeup. Throw it away. Then wash the containers in soapy hot water. After the containers are clean, dry the containers. And finally, the pure genius part...use real fingernail polish and pour it into each little compartment. Si...
