The 100th Day of School Project

The holiday hustle and bustle is over. You think your life is going to slow down and you can finally settle in for a long winter rest until you open your child's backpack and find a note from their teacher.  The note explains that the 100th Day of School is approaching and would you please work with your young person to create a project with 100 items for them to bring to school to celebrate the occasion. If you are the overly-organized,creative, well put-together Mommy you take this all in stride. I admire those Mommy's! I strive to be like those Mommy's. But if you are like me, I try and actually ignore the note for a few days until the realization that I have wasted several days hits and now I am have that much less time to pull something out of thin air. Maybe if you are lucky you will have the type of child that The Boy was when he was small. He had no interest in making a project. He wanted something to do with cars and that was the amount of input he...

Wordless Wednesday: First Day!

We started school today. The Short Chic started first grade. She was so excited. She allowed me to walk her to the bus but that was it.  Her favorite food is cheese pizza. Her favorite thing to drink is Sprite (but she only gets it with pizza!) Her favorite tv show is Jessie!  When she grows up she wants to be a Disney actress, a dancer, a gymnast, and a designer. (She believes in keeping her options open!) She hates to clean her bedroom or pick up after herself. She also does not like bugs or crawfish.  She loves Monster High and American Girl Dolls. He is a Senior. Today was his last first day. Well, except for college. He recently decided he might want to be a teacher when he grows up. His favorite food is Mexican Food. His recently gave up drinking soda.  He loves sports. He hates vegetables. He spent the afternoon getting a job (the second one this week). He starts tomorrow afternoon. I can't believe he is graduating in nine months!

The Short Chic Writes: Volume III

In honor of Father's Day, I am sharing a story The Short Chic wrote about her Daddy. We have a weekend full of things that make The Short Chic's father happy all planned out. They all include fishing.  Happy Father's Day Weekend to all the dad's out there!  It was Father's Day. I had school but I ate breakfast with Daddy.  He brought me lunch. We ate McDonald's.  Me and Daddy went fishing together.  Then we ate donuts.  Me and Daddy read a book. The Lorax.

Last Day Of School Autograph T-Shirt

Another school year is in the books. The Boy has finished his junior year and The Short Chic just finished her kindergarten year. Time sure does fly! Having the end in sight for The Boy makes me wish I could slow down time for The Short Chic. Since time slows for no one, even Mommies, I have developed a few strategies for at least preserving these fleeting moments. This year I made a Last Day of School Autograph T-shirt for The Short Chic. She is going to wear it on the last day of school and collect autographs from all of her friends. This way, when she is no longer small and kindergarten was years past we can look back at her t-shirt and reclaim a glimpse of who she was. Last Fall I introduced you all to this wonderful product from Avery, DIY Iron On Transfers as I used them to create our Halloween costumes. My inspiration for this project came from a post by  Sugar Bee Crafts . She used a silhouette machine, which I do not have.  I remembered that I had some ...

A Major Milestone!

Today was a big day in our household. My Short Chic started preschool. She woke me this morning around 7:30 a.m. when she ran into my bedroom crying. (Before I go on, I feel the need to provide you with a small amount of background information so you can see how relevant the 7:30 a.m. is to me.   I am the mom who lets their child sleep with them. Sleep is very important to me and I would just rather have her comfy in my bed, safe, than get up in the middle of the night. Easy habit to get into...bad habit to break. I decided over my mini-vacation that I would break her and have her sleep in her own bed. Recognizing that ME getting up and taking her back to her bed when she climbs into mine is the KEY. So last night, she came crawling into bed with me at 1:00. I got up, carried her back to bed and thought I would lay down with her until she went back to sleep. Well, I woke up with a start when I realized I was the only person in her bed. She had crawled out and was back in MY bed...
