It's My Life

This past Halloween, we became a family of Minions. To create the look we needed iron-on transfers of the Minion's logo. I was not interested in purchasing a $10-$20 dollar t-shirt per person so I started exploring other options. Our local craft store has t-shirts in every color imaginable and added bonus; they were 50% off their normally low price. Then I found this package of Avery Fabric Transfers.  We use a lot of Avery products at work and I am happy to find they have a lot of products for the home as well. The entire package cost $10.00 and had enough transfers inside to make a shirt for the entire family with an extra. Getting the image you want on the transfer is easy. We just searched Google images for an image of the Minion logo.  The next step was to visit Avery's website. They have templates that you can use that do not require a download. My worry in taking a wide range of kids camping is that the younger kids would be happy just playing together but the older ones, the one's in that awkward pre-teen/teen age, would think everything was so uncool they would just sit around and mope. So I designed a few activities that would hopefully get them up, participating, and moving.  I came home from work a few weeks before the Family Camp-out and found my neighbors had trimmed their tree limbs and piled the mess in my yard. I refrained from getting angry. Over a nice dinner, I asked The Husband to help me with a little project. He looked at me in disgust. I was pulling him away from ESPN to help with an unnecessary camping craft.  I admit I did some begging. In the end, The Husband borrowed his father's chainsaw and decided to help me cut medallions out of a limb.  His mood started changing, quickly.{I then begged him to let me try my hand at the chainsaw, but he would not let budge on that...

We just got home from a great weekend camping. We had a great time with great friends, food, activities and even crafts. I am going to share with you one of our crafts: Reversed Tie-Die or Bleached T-Shirts.  The reason I selected these t-shirt is they are easy. They have minimal parts. Low prep work. And so much fun to make! Supplies: t-shirts. I would suggest using 100% Cotton t-shirts. We got lucky JoAnn Fabric had them on sale this past week 3/$9.99. Tacky Spray. I bought Arlene's Re-positional Tacky Spray. Card stock Design. I made my letters using a Cricut Machine and two different fonts: Going Places had the tent that I made into an A. Birthday Bash is what I used for the letters C, M, P. Cookie Sheet and a Rag Bleach. Empty Spray Bottle.  The process is easy. I avoided it for a long time. Pinterest that is. But I can now officially tell you all I am sucked in! I love Pinterest. I found this on there, it came from FrogPrincessCouture on Etsy, and new I had to incorporate it somehow into the redecoration of The Short Chic's bedroom. This is what I came up with. I am not sure how many total yards of tulle I used, but I know I purchased 30 yards and I have leftovers. Total cost on this weekend project: 25.00 for the tulle (I used a 40% off coupon from Hobby Lobby) 9.00  for the table. Paint came from my garage and was leftovers from painting her walls. Ribbon was from my supply.  First, I painted the table.  Second, I stapled the tulle to the table. The final step was making coordinating bows out of ribbon and adhering them to the tulle. I used fabric adhesive because I was working on this project at 10:00 p.m. and I was too tired to go find a needle and thread from my basement. If Pinterest was me...

I know I have said it before, I will say it again. I love fall. I really love fall festivals!  And I love really cool creative people that come up with new ideas at fall festivals! I found this super cool garden art at a recent fall festival. The base of this piece is a lid from a 5-quart kettle. Then a re-purposed ceiling light shade. Next is a small glass dish, followed by a disregarded vase. The pretty glass pear sits on another small glass plate.  Each piece is secured using a waterproof sealant. I have it sitting in my garden. When the sunlight hits it, it just sparkles.  Look in your cabinets. Do you have glass pieces that need a new life?

I have been remaking my Short Chic's bedroom. Her favorite colors are Orange and Green. It took a moment for me to figure out the whole color scheme, but I got it. We put these letters up in her nursery some four years ago. They were painted purple. She has grown out of her nursery and the purple color scheme. But,I love this letters so I had to decide what to do with them to incorporate them into her big girl room. I found  a stack of scrapbooking paper that was all pink, orange, and green. PERFECT!! The rest was pretty easy. I traced the letters onto the paper. Cut out the paper letters. Mod podged the paper to the wooden letters. Then added more mod podge. I let it dry. Trimmed it all up using an exacto knife. Then I added embellishments, which I already had on hand in my scrapbookin' stash. The end results, totally reinvented, upcylced letters for The Short Chic's bedroom! I  am looking forward to showing you all the rest of her new bedroom soon!

I love fall. I love fall festivals! One of my favorite fall festivals is the Chatauqua in my birthplace, Chillicothe, MO. Today, I drove the hour and fifteen minutes northeast to attend the festival with two of my gal pals. I think The Lord gave me a small gift, The Short Chic decided she did not want to leave her Daddy's side all day today so she stayed home. I had a Mommy-free day! Why do I love fall festivals. I love crafts. I love seeing new things. Running into old friends. And trying out some new foods! I ran into this lovely lady. When I was 14 years old I was a candy-stripper at our local hospital. She worked at the hospital in the front office. She taught me to answer the phones, how to file, and many more office tasks. She is such a wonderful lady with a great heart.
