P.I.G Night: {Pinterest Inspired Girls Night}

What does a girl do when her son goes to visit his Dad for the weekend?

Oh yeah, then your husband leaves town to go fishing?

Leaving just us two girls home by ourselves?

What is a girl to do?

I KNOW!!

You invite a bunch of girls over and have a Pinterest Inspired Girls Night...IN!

Which is exactly what we did last night.

My friend Melissa came up with calling it P.I.G.'s night. I thought it cleaver and it is now stuck.

In order to prepare for our night, I scoured over my Pin Boards and came up with a main course, dessert and a craft or two that we all could do.

The Cutting Edge of Ordinary's Gnocchi Mac and Cheese

The Cutting Edge of Ordinary  has a recipe for Gnocchi Mac and Cheese that I have had pinned for some time. I love gnocchi and I love mac and cheese. I was hoping that this recipe would be pure heaven and I have to tell you, it did not disappoint!

My Gnocchi Mac and Cheese
Oh and dessert! I was going to make healthy baked apples made in a crock pot. I have had that pinned for a super long time. However, in conversation with my co-worker we decided it was time to take a chance and make the Chocolate Chip Oreo Fudge Brownie Bars from Kevin and Amanda.

Ultimate-Chocolate-Chip-Cookie-n-Oreo-Fudge-Brownie-Bar-05

This is a triple layer threat of a dessert! Chocolate Chip cookie dough, Oreo's, and Brownies. My teeth hurt just looking at it! But as I stated my coworker reminded me that a group gathering would be the perfect time/place to try it out.  OH and it was yummy. Everyone at the party got Chocolate Wasted on this dessert!

Dessert (sorry for the shadows, I have no natural light in my house!)
Not going to lie, our crafts were a bit of a disaster!  I had wanted to make bath fizzies (aka bath bombs). But I could not find citric acid powder. I thought I had found it at Hobby Lobby but  when I got there, the employee had found stearic acid instead. I really wanted to scream at her that citric acid was spell C-I-T-R-I-C! I had unfortunately spent too much time driving to her store that I wasted what time I did have to find what I needed.

We attempted another craft I had just seen on Pinterest, making mini pom poms with a fork.

I have to tell you all, these just did not work the way I thought they should. I gave them to my cat. She likes em.

We pitched making pom poms with a fork and just made them with our fingers. We then spent the night making our own version of cheer gloves. Of course, I had failed to think ahead that we would need extra scissors and extra darning needles.  So we were a little bottle necked at times.

The end result, was a lot of fun! A lot of laughs!

It was a total accident that Megs blocked Wendy's face. They were each trying to strike a pose with their cool gloves.

Go Team!
We were up till 1 a.m. making pom poms, laughing, and talking about being chocolate wasted over that dessert!  Oh yeah, and a great deal of time spent on Pinterest looking for ideas for our next P.I.G.'s Night {Pinterest Inspired Girls Night}.

But the fun does not end there for me. I woke up this morning thinking about our evening and decided to make breakfast from Pinterest too!

The Ultimate Egg Sandwich! Toast, Bacon, Cheese and an Over Easy Egg. Yep, I enjoyed every moment of breakfast this morning!

Happy Pinning Everyone! Because remember, we are looking at your pins!

My Weekend Project: A PVC Camping Lamp Post and Flag Holder

I have seen a few of these around campsites and I knew I would like to have one. The only problem that I had is The Husband. He already thinks we drag too much stuff with us when we go camping and if I had told him my desire to have a PVC Camping Light Pole he would have shut it down quickly! So, that leaves a girl with only one choice: Figure out how to do it by herself. I did some internet searching and found a few road maps on RV forums. They seemed easy enough! I visited the local hardware store for the supplies: An exterior post lantern light 2 inch PVC pipe (I used 5 feet but had to purchase a 10 foot piece) A 3 inch toilet flange A 3 inch to 2 inch Reducer PVC Glue A 12 foot electric cord kit 2 - 3/4 inch PVC Caps I also used a few supplies we already had on hand: White Spray Paint 3 1/2 foot - 3/4 inch PVC Pipe Drill Bits (1 inch and 1/2 inch) Tent Stakes The first step was preparing the lantern light. I could only find black i

Tonsillectomy (Warning Photos!)

The Short Chic came down with a pretty nasty case of strep throat back in April. So, when The Boy started complaining about his throat hurting about 12 days later, I was pretty confident that he had inherited his sister's strep. Instead, The Boy was diagnosed with a peritonsillar abscess growing on his right tonsil.  We had to immediately see an ENT  Physician who took a needle and drained the abscess. He removed about 5.5 cc of puss from The Boys throat.and then told us that once you have a peritonsillar abscess you were high risk to keep getting them. The Boy's tonsils were now compromised and needed to be removed.  We were told to plan for a two week recovery so we worked a surgery into our summer plans. Between family vacations, summer sports, and the beginning of school The Boy had his second surgery. A tonsillectomy.  Pre-surgery prepping went well. It must be nice to be young and have healthy veins for an IV! The Boy had lots of pre-surgery visitors. My

Liver Cheese: A Family Tradition

Today is an anniversary date. One of those dates you wish you did not have to remember but there is no way you can forget.  Fifteen years ago today, two days after his birthday, my father died of lung cancer. He was a lifelong smoker and his cancer was aggressive. His battle was short. He fought for six short months after his diagnosis. He knew the chemo was not working and that his time was limited. When he came to this realization he became the best dad in the world.                                                In the days before my father's passing, my family shared some memorable moments. One of those moments centers around the deli meat: Liver Cheese.I would not be surprised if you have never heard of it, or even never tasted it. But I was raised on it as it was one of my Dad's favorite things.  What is it? Well, it is a German food that is actually called Leberkase. It is bacon, corned beef, pork, and onion that is ground together and baked. It comes with a
