Homemade Valentine's Day Cards

You might think I am weird.

But I love those little class parties my kids have! Valentine's Day is probably my favorite class party because I love making homemade Valentines Day cards.  My son, The Boy, is all grown up and no longer has class parties. {insert sad face here!} However, my daughter, The Short Chic, started preschool this year {insert a large smiley face here!} I get to start all over again!!

The Valentine's Day party is next week. The only stipulation is that The Short Chic has to try and write her name by herself on the Valentine.




I started off with these cute, Made in the USA, plastic shovels and wrote a cute little Valentine's message on it.  Then I added a bag of candy, taped it to the shovel.


The last detail was the little stipulation that The Short Chic had to write her own name on the Valentine. I cut a 2x6 piece of cardstock and let her practice away. Here is her best attempt:

How stinking cute is that! She told me that everyone is going to love her Valentine's the Best!


And that melted MY heart!

    These are great!! I super great reason to stock up on sand shovels with the summer clearances :) I am going to have to remember this for next year!!!!

I have seen a few of these around campsites and I knew I would like to have one. The only problem that I had is The Husband. Tour of Missouri: Montauk State Park and The Ozark National Scenic Riverway

August has become our summer vacation month. Summer activities have usually wound down and we like to get one last hooray in before school starts.  This summer we decided to travel our own state and visit a few places we have been dreaming of visiting but were a little too far for a weekend road trip. Despite last minute vacation glitches we managed to pull out of Kansas City around 9:00 in the morning headed to Montauk State Park just outside of Licking, Missouri.  Montauk State Park is one of three state parks where you can trout fish in Missouri. We are frequent visitors of  Bennett Springs  State Park but not Montauk, just because of the travel distance from our house. (Bennett Springs is about 3 hours and Montauk is double that.) Today is an anniversary date. One of those dates you wish you did not have to remember but there is no way you can forget.  Fifteen years ago today,two days after his birthday, my father died of lung cancer. He was a lifelong smoker and his cancer was aggressive. His battle was short. He fought for six short months after his diagnosis. He knew the chemo was not working and that his time was limited.
