My Weekend Project: A PVC Camping Lamp Post and Flag Holder

I have seen a few of these around campsites and I knew I would like to have one. The only problem that I had is The Husband. He already thinks we drag too much stuff with us when we go camping and if I had told him my desire to have a PVC Camping Light Pole he would have shut it down quickly! So, that leaves a girl with only one choice: Figure out how to do it by herself. I did some internet searching and found a few road maps on RV forums. They seemed easy enough! I visited the local hardware store for the supplies: An exterior post lantern light 2 inch PVC pipe (I used 5 feet but had to purchase a 10 foot piece) A 3 inch toilet flange A 3 inch to 2 inch Reducer PVC Glue A 12 foot electric cord kit 2 - 3/4 inch PVC Caps I also used a few supplies we already had on hand: White Spray Paint 3 1/2 foot - 3/4 inch PVC Pipe Drill Bits (1 inch and 1/2 inch) Tent Stakes The first step was preparing the lantern light. I could only find black i...

DIY: Slip N' Slide

Have you ever noticed that people want what they don't have?  My children want summer birthday's. They want to be like Olaf (you know that cute snowman from that movie about ice?) They want to play in the sun. Lounge on the beach. They want to celebrate their birthday's without overcoats and gloves.  In fact, they want summer birthday's so badly, that one year The Boy forgave his birthday and opted to celebrate his half birthday...right smack in the middle of S U M M E R! The Boy loved slip and slides but he always wanted one longer. To make his summer {half} birthday dreams come true, I created a large DIY Slip N' Slide for his "Half-Birthday" celebration. I started this project off at the local home improvement store. I found 10 feet x 100 feet of plastic sheeting for less than $60.00. Plastic sheeting comes in different weights so I used the 6 mil which was pretty thick plastic.  It was a little bit on the pricey side but it was t...

Camping Table Cloth

One of our beloved family activities is camping.  Most campsites feature a picnic table for outdoor dining.  I  love bringing a piece of me to my camping space and a bright cheerful tablecloth is an easy way to do that. However, all too often the wind has other plans for my tablecloth! I know they make devises to hold a tablecloth in place but I have never had good luck with them. They break. The pop off. They lose their shape. Even the cute little weighted clips fall off or have no power over the Missouri win.  Out of pure frustration, I have found a way of securing a tablecloth that the wind can not blow around. The solution was pretty easy: Grommets and Bungee Cords.                                          I selected an inexpensive (less than $5) vinyl tablecloth that I found at the dollar store. It is a bit "thin" but I think it will work f...

Communication Center

I don't think I have told you all yet, I got promoted a few weeks ago. My boss retired and I was selected to take over for her. The past few weeks have been busy with organization projects. I am pretty proud of the communication center I just made today. To make this communication center, I started off by buying a piece of sheet metal. We priced several different ways but I ended up buying a 24 x 36 inch sheet from Home Depot. {The cost for the metal was $19.96.} Next, I hit up the office supply store and found some acrylic file folders on clearance.I needed 4 folders so I had to buy two boxes. {The cost of the folders was $24.00.} The office supply store also had a peel and stick dry erase board on clearance. {$9.00} They also had random magnets, dry erase markers, and butterfly magnets all on clearance. {Total of the random items was $4.00.} Other random supplies I used: magnets {$5/for 52 magnets, chalkboard vinyl, super glue {both on-hand}. I starte...

DIY: Etched Glass Bricks

Every year I attempt to make some type of homemade gift.  This year is no exception. I have seen these cute glass bricks at the hobby stores and I wanted to see what I could make with them. I have to say the end results are fabulous and it looks like I worked much harder than what I really did. Besides buying glass bricks, predrilled at a craft store, I also bought a bottle of glass etching cream. {I did not shop around too much and bought the first bottle I saw. It has a famous name on it and it cost me $25.00 minus my 40% off coupon. I am sure I could have found the same product without the famous name for way less!} I bought some vinyl and used my Cricut to cut out cute letters and borders. I used a new cartridge, Sophisticate. I absolutely love the cartridge! Once the vinyl was cut, I peeled the sticky off the back and placed it on the glass brick.  The key here is to get the edged sealed. It does not have to be perfect at all. {Side note: m...

Felt Cupcake Toppers

So, I am not sure what happened. I opened my blog from my ipad and the next thing I know, my entire post was deleted!! Total devastation! So, I am going to recreate my post. Which I know will not be as good as the first. Last week  I was traveling and away from my family.  I don't mind being away a night but four nights is a lot! I needed something to keep me busy. My best friend still had not had her baby so I thought I should start preparing for her upcoming Sip and See. I know, you are asking "A what and who?" A Sip and See. It is a type of shower that happens after the baby is born. My BFF is very non-traditional and this type of shower seemed appropriate. We are going to have people over, have a SIP of something fruity  and SEE the baby! Since the baby is being born at the birth of spring, our theme is spring. It also offers us some non-traditional colors for a shower. Bright Colors. Green. Blue. Yellow. Red.   In addition to bright colors, ...
