It's My Life

One of my favorite questions to ask young children is "What do you want to be when they grow up?" Their responses are so honest, simple and telling. When The Short Chic was little she wanted to be three things when she grew up, "A fisher-girl, a cheerleader, and a pilot." I still giggle at her selection.  Multiple events lead us to providing The Short Chic with an opportunity to be a cheerleader this fall. One of those was The Boy leaving for college. I needed a distraction from how much I missed him and since cheer required a three day a week commitment, it sounded about perfect.  We selected a competitive football league that also has a strong cheer component. Our chosen team has ten different youth football divisions ranging from K-2 flag football though 8th Grade Tackle. The Short Chic is a flag cheerleader. Did you watch the big game?   Did you have friends over? What did you think of the half time show?   How about the blackout? What was your favorite commercial? We did have friends over. Not a large crowd as in years past but a few people, all pulled together in the hours before kick-off. Thankfully years of big football parties has left me with an ample supply of football decorations. We were able to pull some items together. I used the windsock cans from last year to hold the goal post.  This banner was made last year. It was the only banner that was not team specific. We pulled together some yummy food. I made homemade chicken wings {which I will say I barely got to eat any of. I guess they were good!}. I also made some Twisty Dogs, sausage wantons  and buffalo chicken dip. I made Jello Jigglers and  a giant football shaped Rice Krispie. Our friend brought over some Beer Cheese Dip, Guacamole, and Rotel dip. ...

WOW! What a busy day yesterday was. A big day for football. Congratulations to the NY Giants on becoming The XLVI Super Bowl Champions. You played a great game.  I honestly thought Tom and the other Patriots had it in the bag, but The Giants came back and snatched the lead and did not leave much time for The Patriots to recover. There was another super bowl of sorts going on right here in our home. That is, a Super Bowl of a party! We had about 20 boys over plus 5 adults and of course, The Short Chic making one full household.  I was pretty proud of my Super Bowl table, and it was worth a few ooh's and awwh's until The Husband took his smoked food off the smoker. Then all eyes  {and mouth's} were on his food.  Thanks to a find on Pinterest, these cute football windsocks welcomed everyone to the house. Today was The Boy's family party for his birthday. Since we are having a large Super Bowl party tomorrow for his friends, we had a pre-party today.  It was a great day. We had both sides of our family here and it was a joy to spend time with them.  The house is decorated and ready for Super Bowl. We had some football food today. I thought I would share with you all some of the photos from our day.  My dining room table. I successfully grew grass in a bucket that holds my new PVC goal post.  I love how it turned out! I also snuck into Home Depot yesterday and purchased the indoor/outdoor grass that I used as a dining room tablecloth.  We served individual 7 layer dips, veggie sticks in Ranch dressing, and Alabama Fire Crackers.  I used spice racks as my bleachers. Today is one of my deadlines. Since today is the day of the AFC and NFC Championships, I have given myself the mental due date to which all crafts that are not team specific must be completed. I am making a goal post out of PVC pipe and I made these cute little treat pouches from paper. I am kicking around the idea of a banner made of paper footballs.  After today, I will be making decorations that are team specific. I woke up this morning and started making these cute little football treat pouches. These are super easy to make and a fun way of handing out a treat (mine are filled with M & M's). I started off with some postal wrapping paper ($5.00 from Target). Then I drew a football shape on the paper and cut it out. Then I used my sewing machine to sew up the edges. Be sure to leave a space to insert the goodies. After you stuff the pouch with treats, go back to the sewing machine and stitch up the space.  I promise these...
